Call for Papers – WTDO 2024
The 8th **Workshop on Theses and Dissertations in Ontologies** (**WTDO 2024**) is a track of the **17th** Ontology Research Seminar (ONTOBRAS 2024) that offers an opportunity for Master’s and Ph.D. students working in the area of Ontologies to discuss their research proposals with experts, receive feedback on methodological issues, and develop a network of contacts within the research community.
WTDO 2024 will take place in person from **October 7th to 10th, 2024**, colocated with ONTOBRAS 2024, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul – Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Important Dates
- Submission deadline: August 2nd, 2024.
- Author notification: August 16th, 2024.
- Final version due: August 23rd, 2024.
- ONTOBRAS: October 7th to 10th, 2024.
Submission Instructions
Master’s and Ph.D. students must include two documents in their applications:
- A short paper (5 to 6 pages) describing their research proposal;
- A completed research form, provided in this invitation, summarizing different details of the research proposal.
Both documents must be submitted to WTDO in a single PDF file where the first two pages are the completed research form, and the following pages contain the short paper with the research proposal.
In the research form, provided through the link below, the student must provide specific information about the research proposal, including the people involved, their contact information, research objectives, and methodology. *Consider submitting your research form in English, enabling review by members of the international community.*
In the short paper, the student must describe the content of the research proposal. The student should be the first author, while their advisors should follow as co-authors. The student’s main advisor must send an email to wtdo2024 on easychair acknowledging and agreeing to the submission of the work to WTDO 2024 and publication in the event proceedings.
**We draw the attention of advisors of works already published in WTDO to the new templates and size limit.** The short paper must be between 5 and 6 pages, excluding references. The short paper must follow the CEUR-ART template, single column.
Templates for Microsoft Office Word, Open Office, and LaTeX can be downloaded at: https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip
The LaTeX template is also directly available on Overleaf at the following link: https://www.overleaf.com/read/gwhxnqcghhdt
Submissions should be written in ENGLISH (preferably) or PORTUGUESE. We strongly encourage students to submit their research proposals in ENGLISH, as it allows for the exchange of academic knowledge with a larger audience and enables feedback from members of the international community. Submissions in PORTUGUESE must have a summary and keywords in ENGLISH.
Submissions to WTDO must be made through EasyChair.

WTDO does not accept submissions of works already published or under review in other events, including ONTOBRAS and ICBO. Submissions related to dissertations and theses with defense scheduled before the event will not be considered.
Review
All valid presentations will be reviewed by the ONTOBRAS Steering Committee. Each submission will be reviewed for:
- Originality of the research;
- Clarity and relevance of the proposal;
- Analysis of the state of the art and related works;
- Adequacy of the selected research method;
- Text quality;
- Potential to advance research areas related to ontology;
- The potential benefit of feedback in contributing to the completion of the research.
Accepted Submissions
Accepted applications must be presented in person by the student. A senior member of the research community will be invited to provide feedback on the presentation and research proposal. Details of the presentation structure will be provided before the workshop.
The works from these presentations will be published in the proceedings of ONTOBRAS 2024 at CEUR-WS, as part of the IAOA series. The publication of accepted works requires the author’s registration at ONTOBRAS, as well as the presentation of the work during the WTDO track. Proceedings from recent editions of ONTOBRAS are available via the links below:

The results of the evaluations (considering both submission and presentation) will serve as the basis for the selection of the 2 best works (1 at the master’s level and 1 at the doctoral level) of WTDO 2024. The best works will be awarded a certificate and announced at the closing ceremony of the event.
